Frequently Asked Questions

What is a wax melt?

A wax melt is basically a wickless candle! You place a chunk in the well of a wax warmer (tea light warmer or electric). As it starts to melt, it will release a beautiful smell that will fill your home.

Why do you use fragrance oil rather than essential oil?

I have put together a great blog post explaining why I personally have decided that fragrance oil is the most environmentally friendly option for Pyne & Co. Click here to read.

How do I remove the wax from my warmer once the scent has faded?

Unlike candles, the wax does not evaporate; only the scent dissipates. Once you can no longer smell the fragrance, you can remove the wax from the well in a couple of different ways. You can either heat the wax up in the well slightly so you can pop it out in one chunk or you can wait until it has fully melted and soak up the wax with a piece of cotton wool or similar.

What is a wax warmer?

There are two main types of wax warmers - tea light and electric.

Tea light warmers are the most commonly used and are usually ceramic with a hollow center that has space for a tea light candle and a well/dish on top for the wax to go. Tea light warmers are often confused with oil burners. The main differences between wax and oil burners are the size of the dish and distance from the top of the tea light to the base of the well/dish. Wax warmers have larger wells/dishes and the base of the dish is further away from the tea light flame. This ensures the wax is warmed, not burned. Oil burners are not suitable for wax melts as they will burn the wax and the fragrance will dissipate quickly.

Electric warmers are flameless and are powered by electricity. These can include small plug in warmers or warmers that come with a cord. Both are great alternatives to a tea light warmer, especially if you have little ones or pets that you are worried about in the house!

How long does one of your beeswax bars last for?

Each bar gives up to 30 hours worth of fragrance. This will vary depending on whether you are using a tea light or electric warmer. Tea light warmers get warmer than electric warmers, so will dispel the fragrance quicker.
